6 things PDC Europe is doing to reduce our environmental impact
Decarbonisation is the word on everyone’s lips, but at PDC Europe it’s more than just a buzz word. We are actively making decisions that reduce our environmental impact – and not just through our machines! Let’s see 6 Steps towards decarbonisation
- We source locally
Whatever the resource, when we’re looking to procure something, we look locally as priority, helping reduce the impact of transportation of goods. If we source materials from Amiens, 25 miles away from our HQ, the environmental impact is far lower than materials sourced in Asia, for example. We also apply our “source local” ethos to our support for our international clients, with local engineers on the ground who can step in if our clients ever need support with our sleeve applicators or other machinery.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
At work, the whole PDC team is held to the highest standards when it comes to the 3 Rs! We have a clear and easy to follow recycling system in place throughout our office & factory.
- Our product innovations
Stretch and shrink sleeves both have advantages, but did you know the shrink sleeves applied with our sleeve applicator machinery requires 3 times less CO2 than shrink? We know our trade inside out, & always help our clients make informed decisions to ensure we meet their needs.Recent product innovations include cardboard bundling rather than plastic. We listen to our clients and use our vast experience to integrate new, sustainable & eco-conscious product This example of a plastic substitute offers product protection & ease of transport, can be personalised with your branding, all while contributing the circular economy: recyclable, and made from recycled materials.
- Commitment to eco-design
We consider the environmental implications of our products and design from the get-go. We approach the design of our sleeve applicators and other machines with special consideration for the environmental impact of the machine throughout its lifecycle. At PDC Europe, striving towards a circular economy is at the forefront of all that we do.
- Everyday choices that make a difference
We believe that small gestures add up. Little things that affect everyday life can eventually lead to a bigger impact. For example, in our office and workshops we have switched all our lights to LEDs, which are highly energy efficient and last longer than standard lights, so have a lower environmental impact. Our spaces are all fitted out with motion detectors too, so we’re not wasting energy by lighting empty rooms! The newest change is the introduction of an electric car charging point in our car park! Clients and employees can now use our EV charging point. By making this available, we are hoping to encourage more and more people to reduce their carbon footprint by trading in their cars for an electric vehicle. - Continual improvement
We know that there is still more work to be done! We are working on finding an accurate way to track PDC machines’ CO2 emissions, and looking at the most effective ways to offset these. If you have ideas, we’re all ears!
If you have any best practices you’d like to share on our decarbonisation journey, we’d be keen to hear from you! And if you are looking for ways to make sure you’re using the least carbon dioxide possible on your product package throughout the whole lifecycle, get in touch with our sales team by email sales@pdceurope.com – we’d be happy to share our knowledge with you!
